Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing and Michael Schumacher Commercial
Kicking things off this beautiful April morning, we’ve got a behind-the-scenes look at a SLS AMG Gullwing commercial starring Michael Schumacher that we thought was new but actually made its debut back in January. In it, Schumacher takes a turn in the new model, and surrounded by his support team, attempts to perform a rather arduous driving feat. I won’t give away any more details, as you can watch the video below and see the action for yourself. When you’re finished, you can check out the additional behind-the-scenes photos from the Schumacher SLS AMG commercial filming showing various setups, storyboards, etc. that went into the making of the ad.

Supersonic Green Machine
This future aircraft design concept for supersonic flight over land comes from the team led by the Lockheed Martin Corporation. The team's simulation shows possibility for achieving overland flight by dramatically lowering the level of sonic booms through the use of an "inverted-V" engine-under wing configuration. Other revolutionary technologies help achieve range, payload and environmental goals. This supersonic cruise concept is among the designs presented in April 2010 to the NASA Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate for its NASA Research Announcement-funded studies into advanced aircraft that could enter service in the 2030-2035 timeframe.

Drivin' that Dynaflow: GM's Other Early Automatics
The Hydra-Matic, GM's first fully automatic transmission, was a great success, inspiring a host of rivals -- including some within General Motors itself. This week, we look at the origins of Dynaflow and Powerglide, the ambitious but ill-fated Turboglide and Triple Turbine, and the second- and third-generation Hydra-Matics. As we saw in our first installment, Oldsmobile's original Hydra-Matic, introduced in 1939, was the world's first really successful fully automatic transmission. By 1952, GM had produced more than two million Hydra-Matics, which were used by Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Pontiac, and a variety of other automakers, ranging from Kaiser-Frazer to the short-lived Muntz Jet. Hydra-Matic was standard on Cadillacs by the early fifties, and went into more than 80% of all Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs.

How to Make Bacon from Scratch
Bacon. It has a wonderful place in human history. Humans have eaten it for thousands of years, traded it as a staple of economies, and most recently, turned it into an internet meme. It’s no mystery why we have a love affair with Bacon. It’s the Christina Hendricks of meat products. The smell of bacon soothes a crying infant. Vegetarians make exceptions for bacon. Bacon is the closest we can get to empirically proving the existence of God. Bacon, for lack of a better word, is The Sh*t. All the aforementioned could be said about store-bought bacon. The thing is, I had heard whispers that bacon from scratch—cured, smoked, and cut at home—puts store-bought bacon to profound shame. I didn’t think it was possible to improve on perfection, but I had to find out. And so I bravely set out to into the unknown to discover the lost art of homemade bacon, by which I mean I turned off Extreme Home Makeover, got off my ass and looked it up online.
