on the rise again, and Detroit was getting scared. Each American automaker fielded its own response, but American Motors, which had built its market position with economy cars, came up with two. The first was a clever improvisation, the second was a brave attempt to do something genuinely new. Some people call them the ugliest cars of the 1970s -- a title for which there are many contenders -- but nobody would ever mistake them for anything else. We're referring of course, to the AMC Gremlin and the infamous AMC Pacer. We begin with the Gremlin.

Toshiba Zooms In/out Images by Bending LCD Panel
Toshiba Corp developed an LCD panel that enables to zoom in and out an image by bending it and announced the panel at SID 2010, the largest international conference on display technologies. At the conference, Toshiba actually zoomed in and out an aerial photograph of Google Earth displayed on the screen by bending the LCD panel. The intuitive operation of the bendable panel was drawing attention from many engineers. The exhibited display had a commercially available bend sensor whose resistance value changes by bending it. The sensor was equipped at the end of the backlight unit.

Subaru Impreza STI Cosworth CS400
The new Subaru Impreza STI Cosworth CS400 is the result of one of the most eagerly anticipated automotive collaborations in recent times. The first genuine Cosworth-developed road car since 1996, the latest limited edition Impreza offers performance-car fans the thrill of a lifetime combined with exclusivity - production will be restricted to 75 cars. The Cosworth-tuned, turbocharged vehicle is one of the world's most accelerative hatchbacks. The renowned 2.5-litre turbocharged 'Boxer' engine is transformed to produce 33 per cent more power, drawing heavily on Cosworth's extensive Formula 1 experience. The engine, which drives all four wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, boasts an impressive 400 ps and the new model reaches 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds, going on to cover a quarter mile in 12.75 seconds at a terminal speed of 107 mph. Top speed is limited to 155mph.

Acer Liquid E Ferrari Special Edition revs up Android 2.1
Sure, the Acer Liquid E Ferrari Special Edition features the the same underclocked 768MHz Snapdragon and Android 2.1 as the original Liquid E that launched in February, but, well, this one comes with a flashy Ferrari F1 Red paint job and matching Elite Bluetooth earpiece. Can't say no to that, can you? You know the rest of the drill: 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen, five megapixel camera with autofocus, geotagging, and adjustable ISO, included 8GB microSD card, and the Acer Sync app that syncs changes across your phone and PC. No word on price or availability, but it certainly looked pretty on the Computex show floor -- we'll let you know if we find out more.
